It was not my first choice but after 9 months looking for a job in Dublin I realised that I needed get some experience in order to get a good job there then, I sent my CV to a hostel in Northern Ireland to work there as a volunteer.
I can say that it was the best thing that I did.
In fact while I worked in that hostel I met lots of nice people and I could for the first time really speak English, after all, I was the only Brazilian one there.
My first week was a little bit hard, too much shy, afraid to speak and making mistakes every time, after some days and knowing better the other volunteers I started to feel me more confident, trying new words and talking to everybody.
The routine wasn't hard, of course, I had some boring duties.
I had to make beds, prepare the breakfast, cleaning the hostel and sometimes working in the restaurant as a kitchen porter. At least 100 dishes per day, more pans, pots and everything but as I told before. I made some good friendship. I learned too much, I laughed a lot and I worked hard.
In my day offs, If was sunny (everyday it was raining there) I used to take the staff's bicycle and then start cycling.
